“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies You anoint my head with oil My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
I see a picture of people’s heads being anointed with oil. Sizzling hot holy oil dripping upon heads, crowning them with life and light, seeping into brains and flowing down brows, cheeks and noses, dripping into ears and down necks upon chests and hearts. It is a picture of what God wants to do for His people in this season and that looks and feels amazing!
This message is from the heart of Abba for everyone who looks to Him, but very specially reaching out to those who are experiencing uncertainty and anxiety at this time. Why is Holy Spirit’s anointing oil being poured upon our heads during this season? God upgrades and elevates us when He anoints us; however, today, I want to say that the oil is coming upon our heads because we need the power of Yahweh to hit our thoughts, our minds. The head is the “control center”, the command post, the home of the brain. It is where we think, consciously and unconsciously. Science tells us that everything we do, every step we take, was already thought in our mind, 5-11 seconds before the action ever happened.
Our head is symbolic of our leadership, our individuality, authority in life, our ego, our self. Giving your head to Holy Spirit to take over is giving Him access and Lordship over every crown, every thing we are and want to be. It is giving Him the driving seat and the place of rulership in our lives. It is coming to a place where we are wholly given over to God, with no compromise, no conditions, no holding back. Yielding your mind to Holy Spirit will bring you into a new season of surrender and growth, and into encountering new and powerful revelations exploding within you. You will be truly one with the Mind of Christ, accessing the Source of all sources, the great Mind of Christ, fountain of all knowledge and wisdom. You will be taught and led by Holy Spirit like never before. You will see your life transformed, because Romans 12:2 says “…be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
Our thoughts are the trigger to every emotion we may feel – whether good or less than good. Your heart may be in a state of turmoil and anxiety, worrying about the future, not knowing how things are going to pan out, but here’s a word from the Lord – “Allow Me to anoint your head with oil”.
So how can you cooperate with Holy Spirit in the thoughts of your mind? First of all, invite the precious Holy Spirit to come upon your mind, to anoint your head with His fiery oil. Specifically give Holy Spirit your mind afresh today; invite the powerful presence of God to think with you, to guide you, to give you discernment and consciousness in your deepest thoughts. Become conscious of what you are thinking about, and stay that way. As you observe how thoughts arise in your mind, you will have the opportunity to take a step back and not partner with thoughts that are unfruitful or causing you anxiety, offence, or disrupt the peace of your heart. This will enable you to regulate your emotional responses, and of course how your body reacts (less stress, and cortisol!) Begin to feed on the Word and think about it, meditate on it, understand and reason with it. I mean that we usually receive the Word into our “hearts”, and that’s where you may “feel” the Word as you read or hear it. But what if you began to chew on the Word in your mind, actually thinking about it, reasoning with it and understanding it deeper with each moment you dwell on it? The Word would be subtly penetrating all the many parts of your mind and thought life, and transforming you, renewing you, in a whole new way.
Friend, there are thoughts being “sown” into our minds all the time, and if we embrace and run with every thought that occurs in our minds, we will be so controlled by all the voices around us, and so prey to the negative emotions of a hurting world. Instead, I invite you to take accountability and control of your own mind today and to yield your “head” to the mighty Holy Spirit. Give your “control center” to Holy Spirit and you will be giving Him access to every other part of your life. Let it be the voice of God the Holy Spirit that is speaking into your mind. Psalm 23 verse 5 says: “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies” because Jesus is going to rise up strong on your behalf and flaunt your blessing in the face of all who wished you harm or those who thought you would fail or hit a wall. “You anoint my head with oil, my cup runs over”: where you will be unable to contain what God is doing for you – it will be exceedingly abundantly more than you ever asked or imagined (Ephesians 3:20). Finally, verse 6 says “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” What a powerful place to be, living in the center of God’s heart, covered in His presence, seen and known by Him, and living your life to the fullest. There is a blessing that is meant for you, a state of overflow; it is an ever-flowing abundant river of glorious zoe life!
“O Holy Spirit, come, anoint my head with Your oil. I need Your touch upon my life. I need your power upon my mind. I give you my thoughts, conscious and unconscious. Teach me; lead me; work with me; Let the fiery oil of Your presence fill every part of me and change me Lord, eternally.”
