“Be Still…” (Psalm 46:10)

“Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” (NKJV)

There has been so much happening in the world around us, and it seems like it all exploded upon the world like a timed bomb which was strategized for maximum impact, and to create a ripple effect across the nations. There seems to be so much strife and heightened emotion from every quarter; but, in the midst of all the melee, I hear my Father’s voice, and He says to me: “Be still and know that I am God”. I hear it over and over – “Be still and know” or “Be still”, or “Be still and just know that I am God over all the earth.” These words of Scripture are from Psalm 46: “Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. The Lord of hosts is with us, the God of Jacob is our refuge. (Psalm 46, verses 10 & 11).

Dear friends, it seems like the world has forgotten that Yahweh is God over the universe! It seems like He has been so systematically pushed out from places and processes, that calling upon His name does not feel like an obvious or accessible solution for most of the people of a nation. It feels like there is so much pain and confusion out there, but in the midst of the melee the gracious voice of our Father says “Be still and know that I am God. I am eternal, everlasting Yahweh, your Creator God. I am the First and the Last, the beginning and the end, and everything in between.  I am who I am and always have been – gracious, kind, forgiving, merciful, never holding your sins against you. If you call upon My name, I will hear you and heal you. I love to have true relationship with you, to bless and prosper you, and to lift you high to where I always planned for you to be as co-heir and divine partner with Me. Call upon My name, and see Me change your destiny. Yes, a nation can be born in a day. Yes, you can witness its transformation, but include Me in the story, come and pray to Me. I love you, I hear you, I will answer you when you call.”

Every time I take a moment to make myself “still”, I feel God. I feel His presence in a real and tangible way. The more I sit in silence, breathing deeply and just “feel” Him, the more I feel His strength and His leading, and the assurance that everything is going to be OK! There is so much urgency, and a general expectation of lightning-fast responses in this fast-paced modern life, that we can get swept along in a tide of trouble and emotions we never intended to be a part of. Today the Holy Spirit is calling us back to stillness. It is an oasis of “Godness”, and a refuge in God’s goodness. A real revelation of His authentic love and His absolute reality is where our prayers must flow from, and these become powerful prayers which touch the heart of our God, who is always righteous, always just, and who loves His creation on the face of the earth, whether they care about Him or not. His heart is to restore and transform, and for His love to impact every man, woman and child on the face of the earth, and He works through you and me. See what verses 8 & 9 of Psalm 46 say:

“Come behold the works of the Lord, who has made desolations in the earth. He makes wars cease to the end of the earth. He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two. He burns the chariot in the fire.” (Ps 46: 8 & 9). Jesus is the Prince of peace, and He can make every war cease. The Gospels tell us how “He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.” (Mark 4:39). Let His Word of peace come upon your heart today. Let yourself be still before Him. Let your consciousness of the Holy Spirit grow and take a hold of you. As the tempest subsides inside my heart, and I am filled with the peace of Jesus, I can see things as He sees them, and I am able to release that same Word of peace to everyone and everything around me. I can see transformation happen. I can see God moving mountains and setting the captives free, hallelujah! Dear friend, take a moment to lean back in your chair, to breathe in deeply, and to let your brain slow down. Breathe in the blessed Holy Spirit, and let the peace of Jesus soothe and sanctify your soul. There is so much more than you ever knew, much more than you were ever taught or told. But if you humbly come to Him and let Him guide and teach you, you will see the transformation you desire, and the fullness of the Holy Spirit manifesting through His fire. “Be still dear child of Mine, and you will know that I am God!”
