“For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully & wonderfully made. Marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.”
Look in the mirror, and see the work of an Artist, the Creator who put everything where it is meant to be in you, and who skillfully formed you in your mother’s womb. We truly are fearfully and wonderfully made! It always blows me away when I stop to think about how the human body works, or how a baby is born. God has created a piece of art and it’s so amazing!
I regularly meet people who are trying hard be like someone else, someone they admire and look up to; but God made you uniquely you! Paul wrote “Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ” (1 Corinthians 11:1), and it is true that we all can benefit from having role models in our lives. It is good to be guided by the lives of those who have reached something we are still looking towards, but you still have to be “you”. Is it not astounding that out of the 8 billion (or more) people on the face of the earth, you and I have a unique thumb print, a distinct DNA signature, a unique personality and mind that is unlike anyone else’s on the face of the earth? Yes, you have been fearfully and wonderfully made. You are a marvelous work of wonder, and to top it all off, Holy Spirit breathed life inside of you and brought you forth to be (sometimes yet-to-be discovered) you!
Friend, step inside yourself. Look around at that beautiful inner temple. Who are you? What does that inner sanctum look like? Who (or what) has filled that place that’s you? Have you thought about your purpose and your destiny, and who you are called to be on the earth? Do you see that you are a powerhouse, a palace, a sacred place? Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 6:19 “Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?” You are his dwelling place, the holy temple of the Holy Spirit. You belong to the Lord Christ, and you are His habitation by His precious Spirit! The unique aspects of your unique nature and person are meant to be manifested in their best form through the moving of the Spirit of Christ in you.
So how can you be the best “you” that you can be? How can you manifest the very specific “Christ-ness” that can come only from you? Of course we are all on a path of progress and we learn from others and we aim to improve in the things that need some work but we were never meant to be clones or cookie cutter versions of anyone else. I have been called to be “me”, as you have been born to be you – Jesus in a “me” suit and Jesus in a “you” suit! The more I school myself to be like someone else, the more I fall into a spirit of performance, and the more I stifle the essential “me-ness” God has placed inside of me, the natural manifestation of this supernatural in-dwelling God.
Bless this temple and love it well (Matthew 22:37-39). Take care of this temple, and acknowledge the uniqueness and wonder of how it is made, and Who thought it worthwhile to enter in. God Himself is living in you and He has something glorious to manifest uniquely through you, so you be your best “you” and He will do the rest!
“Holy Spirit arise in me. I want to yield to Your moving and manifesting through my life. I ask You to take over this temple and fill me with Your light. I want to be the best “me” I can be. I want to manifest the uniqueness of the Lord Christ manifesting through me! I give myself to You completely!”
