You Anoint My Head

| Psalm 23:5 – 1 August 2019 |

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil, my cup runs over.

NKJV

When David wrote this psalm, he was having a difficult time in the wilderness. He was being hounded by his enemy King Saul, the highest man in the land. Saul had all the forces of the nation at his disposal, and the weapons and horses of war, but David knew he would overcome because he had the presence of God! You may be reading this message while wondering why your enemies are still a source of stress to you. Perhaps you have been asking the Lord why they are present as a thorn or a snare in your life. Friend, it is because your promotion is arising out of the midst of your problem! God did not cause this difficult situation in your life, but He is working it all out for your good. He is causing you to focus on the victory that Jesus won, and to receive from Him the same inheritance Jesus already paid for. He is lifting up your head and taking you to higher ground. How many of us would enjoy sitting and feasting while our enemies watch? Not me, because it is not a very comfortable place to be in; most of us might do whatever we could to avoid the cause of our aggravation. But God is causing your enemies to see His divine intervention in your life. He is really rubbing their faces in your victory, and they are going to see His radical love for you, and the absolute breakthrough He is bringing forth for you. The Lord Himself is vindicating you! God may be answering your prayers in a different way to what you visualized, but He is strengthening you, and making you stand in the honor to which He is exalting you. It is the goodness of the Lord pouring out in waves all over you, hallelujah!

How does this begin to happen? How is it possible to climb to higher levels in God when you are going through a difficult time? You may have been going through a season in the valley, but be assured that the Holy Spirit is walking you right through it and you are heading towards the mountains again. There is a deep, rich anointing of the Holy Spirit that comes upon the sons of God when they are in these seasons of stretching , which can never happen in the good times. It is in the silent depths of the darkness of night that deep can really call to Deep and feel the resonating vibration of the Spirit’s holy call. It is through these seasons of pressing that deep rich perfume comes forth to be poured out at the feet of our Bridegroom King, a reverent worship and glorious praise. It is in a time of tears that we can run into the depths of the Father’s heart and experience His heavenly comfort, His rock-solid assurance of never failing love. It comes from the deep dependence that occurs in times of testing, which may not be there when things are good. When surrounded by his enemies, David placed his trust in God and looked to Him for every breath, and this is what most of us may do. This special anointing comes from the intimacy and sweet communion with the Holy Spirit, who is our Comforter, Guide, our Teacher and Friend. There is a real and powerful anointing being placed upon your life in this season, and you are coming out of this time forever changed. You are going higher in God, walking into new levels in the power of the precious Holy Spirit.

David was a man in exile, stuck in the desert, but he said “My cup runs over”because he had a revelation of the goodness and generosity of God. He knew who his source of life and power was. The anointing of God begins to attract favor, and abundance until it begins to overflow. It flows from that real communion and oneness with Jesus, and the revelation and expectation of His love. Friend, the mighty Creator God is inviting you to sit at His table today, and break bread with Him while your enemies watch. Your deeper fellowship is taking you to victory. The ones that sought your destruction will have to see your empowerment and increase! He is anointing you with fresh heavenly Holy Spirit oil, smearing your head with His power and life. He is taking you from a place of lack and defeat to a place of plenty, causing your abundance to overflow and bless lives in His Kingdom, and in the world. The power of the Holy Spirit is bringing a strength and faith into your heart which will keep you standing with your head held high, knowing that God is strongly on your side. God has so much more for you and there’s oil dripping down upon your head!
